Design by Mimi Rosenthal

Walking home from elementary school I often stopped to visit my Dad at his men’s custom tailoring shop. It was bespoke in the true sense of the word. I would stand in front of the shelves stacked with bolts of the most wonderful fabrics; woolens and worsteds, Herringbone and Hounds Tooth, cashmere and camel hair. It was the beginning of my love affair with textiles.

Who knew that many years later I would be on the faculty at The University of Texas at Austin teaching courses in textiles, and residential design.

I was fortunate to grow up in a home filled with love, literature, art and music. It was this foundation that led me finally to design.

I have always had a deep desire to create something new and original. My wonderful clients have often given me the opportunity to design something just for them – from unique fireplace facades, to bedside tables. I especially enjoyed designing a pair of copper-clad doors that were used as the entry to a home theater.

One of my rug designs was selected as the first place winner in a custom rug competition sponsored by Black Sheep Unique in Austin. The design is named “Celeste” and is hand woven in wool and silk in Nepal.

I love being with my family, traveling when I can, and wandering through art museums. And I always love coming home to the wonderful spaces I live in.

Working together.

Research is the key.

When creating the initial design concepts for a client, I begin with a thorough consultation to explore their needs and desires. But I don’t stop there. I always spend a good chunk of time doing extensive research on the fit and functionality of the final design, so that the client’s new home will support their lifestyle in every way possible.

Investigation brings success to the process.

The artist inside.

From the youngest age, I was surrounded by a culture rich in art. We listened to a variety of musical styles and had book collections spanning the globe. I draw on that early learning and travel to feed my imagination for your project. To transform your interior, I combine classic design principles with the best of today’s design aesthetic.

The results are both beautiful and functional.

Really knowing you.

There comes a time in your life when you want to be surrounded by things that please your eye, feel good to own and work with the way you live. Your needs have changed through the years, and you have arrived at a time when you know what you want out of life. I fully understand that. I create remodels that aren’t about showing off. It’s more about that deep feeling of satisfaction you get when you live in a home that fits.

Let’s work together.
